Explore The Everglades

Did you know that one can walk across the Everglades!!

Known as the “river of grass” because its waters flow so slowly, the Everglades stretches from Lake Okeechobee all the way through to Florida Bay in the south. Exploring the everglades here in Orlando, Florida is truly an adventure. The Everglades is an internationally acclaimed site, a world heritage site, a Wetland of International Importance as well as an International Biosphere Reserve.

The Alligators are at the top of the food chain here in the Everglades and there are many more magnificent species which reside here. Red wood storks, the Florida panther, deer and hogs to name but a few!

There are also many endangered species which thrive here in this protected environment. There are four different species of endangered turtles here. The Atlantic Leatherback Turtle, the Hawksbill turtle, the Green Turtle and the Atlantic Ridley Turtle enjoy a peaceful life here in the shallow estuaries of the Everglades. The Florida Panther and West Indian Manatee are just some of the endangered mammals in the park.

Because most of the Everglades National Park area is water, one of the best ways to explore the everglades is on an airboat. Fishing is permitted but controlled. Rent a canoe and take a scenic ride through some of the more isolated areas of the everglades. Take a guided boat tour, or take an Alligator Tour! Some tour operators offer airboats, swamp buggies and helicopter safaris. There are so many ways to explore the Everglades! Another way to explore the Everglades is on foot. There are many trails which lead guests through the parks. Many of the trails are also wheelchair accessible.

Come and explore the enchanting Everglades!
