Fun, feasting and fighting is what captures the enthusiasm of guests when they visit one of the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. The first Medieval concept castle was established in Spain and opened its gates to the public in 1973. This brilliant concept eventually reached North America and is just as popular today as when it was initially launched in Spain.
Guests are welcomed by a Pre-Show where the journey back to the 11th century begins as visitors are greeted by King Alfonso and his lovely daughter, Princess Esperanza. All guests receive a colored crown corresponding to their seating area and the particular Knight they will cheer throughout the show. Shortly after the meet-and-greet with the royals, the Master of Ceremonies orders the trumpeters of the Realm to announce the opening of the Grand Ceremonial Arena. Thereafter guests proceed to their color-coded pavilion as the mouth-watering feast commences.
The Feast is carried out with clockwork precision as legions of serving wenches and serfs deliver four sumptuous courses to hungry guest within minutes. The meal starts off with savory garlic bread and a piping hot vegetable soup ladled into pewter bowls. After this generous starter course comes roasted chicken, spare rib and a seasoned potato. To end off the feast is the delectable pastry of the Castle. Two rounds of beverages are included with the feast and a cash bar service is also available throughout the show. To the delight of many guests, the feast is served in true “medieval style” - without silverware, but with plenty of napkins. The Tournament of Skill unfolds in the Grand Ceremonial Arena as the feast is under way. It portrays the legend of a kingdom threatened by treachery but intimately strengthened by courage. The show has all the glorious pageantry and lance-splintering action guests look forward to as well as a romantic element - a Princess’s love for a handsome Knight - and not to mention a riveting confrontation between a turncoat warrior and a surprise defender of the crown. Competition between the six brave Knights of the Realm is heated as they vie in a colorful tournament for the lead in the flag toss, ring pierce and javelin thrown-games of skill especially designed to hone a Knights abilities in battle.Once the final game of skill has been won, Squires prepare the Grand Ceremonial Arena for the ever-popular Joust where Lances Splinter and Broadswords Clash. As the trumpets sound, Knights in full armor, astride magnificent Andalusians(a breed of horse), charge at each other brandishing 10-foot lances, with the sinister intention of unseating their opponents. Once unhorsed, the brave Knights continue their battles on foot, employing all the authentic weaponry of the medieval era - the axe, sword, bola and mace - in the ultimate quest for victory. In a shower of sparks, the clanging of metal against metal and the deadly glint of whirling bola, all contenders eventually fall to their defeat leaving only one brave Knight standing to claim the title of New Champion. But before victory can be enjoyed, deadly treachery in the King’s trusted inner circle must be quelled.
The last scene is where the story comes to a close and Honor is Restored. As the plot unfolds with shocking twists and turns, truth, honor and love eventually triumph over evil and peace is restored to the medieval kingdom. An unexpected event in the final minutes of the show brings guests to their feet, more often than not, with a deafening wave of cheers. All the brave Knights return to the Arena for one final salute to the crowd of more than a thousand noble guests.
